Coached by Dr. Lauren Hunt, senior horn majors Isabella Craig, Mason Murphy, Tatum Tschetter and Jak Vargas — collectively, the Interlochen Horn Quartet — advanced to the live quarterfinal rounds of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.
This year, they are one of two ensembles from Interlochen Arts Academy competing at the largest chamber music competition in the country.
The competition will be held May 8 - 10 at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, where the quartet will perform and compete to advance to the semifinals and finals of the Junior Wind Division. The Interlochen Horn Quartet is the only horn quartet competing in this category — something that is both uniquely challenging and rewarding.
"We are definitely excited and honored to be in the live round for Fischoff," said Craig, for whom this is her first time at a chamber competition.
IPR's Christy L'Esperance spoke to each member of the quartet about performing with each other — in a quartet of identical brass instruments — as well as their sentiments heading towards both a national competition and graduation.

"Coming to Interlochen has been a dream come true," said Tschetter. "Being around incredible musicians is really inspiring."
