For almost a century, the Grand Traverse Musicale has been presenting concerts and supporting young musicians in the Grand Traverse region with scholarships.
In 2025, the organization awarded scholarships to nearly 30 middle school and high school students in northern Michigan.
The recipients of this year's Dr. and Mrs. R. Schilling Award are vocalist Cecilia Balog, a St. Francis High School senior, and violist Konrad Kuzma, a TC Central High School senior.
They recently visited IPR's Studio A to perform and to talk about what it means to be the top scholarship recipients.
Cecilia, Konrad and the rest of this year's Grand Traverse Musicale scholarship winners will perform in two back-to-back recitals in Traverse City on Thursday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Music performed in Studio A
Cecilia Balog, voice, with pianist Jamie Hardesty
W. A. Mozart, "In uomini, in soldati" from "Cosi fan tutte"
Konrad Kuzma, viola
Max Reger, Suite for solo viola, II. Vivace
This edition of Studio A was engineered by Benjamin Stephens.
Amanda Sewell was the host, and Scott Clemens is IPR's digital content manager.
