Love: Animals and Nature — Friday

Saturday is Valentine's Day — let's reflect on what we love about life!

Hear today's full episode by clicking "Listen" above or find "Intermezzo" from your favorite podcast app.

Welcome to Intermezzo from Interlochen Public Radio, where we take a few minutes to bounce some ideas around about classical music.

Host Christy L'Esperance heard from many about you about the things we love. Earlier this week, we talked about loving music, food, people and hobbies.

Today we'll explore how, as human creatures, we're wired to love the great outdoors and our fellow creatures who share this world with us.

We love pets because they depend on us and their love is unconditional. They give us a sense of responsible purpose, providing a big bucket that we can pour our love into anytime.

And they’ll dump that love right back onto you: dogs bounding into you when you come home or cats circling your legs before settling into your lap.

One of the great things about living in Northern Michigan is that we truly have four seasons — something that has inspired composers for centuries.

Beethoven, for example, loved nature. He would take long walks in the field and woods surrounding Vienna. The breeze, the gently moving trees and the scurrying wildlife inspired his 'Pastoral" Symphony.
