Welcome to Intermezzo from Interlochen Public Radio, where we take a few minutes to bounce some ideas around about classical music.
So far we've talked about love of music and food and today, we're going to talk about what matters most when it comes to love: people.
Connection is how we survive. Being loved helps us feel secure, and loving other people helps us learn how to be patient and kind. Think about the people who populate your current adventures!
One of composer Johannes Brahms's closest friends was the violinist Joseph Joachim, with whom he had a falling out. However, they reconciled, and Brahms composed a double violin concerto as a peace offering.
You can hear that warmth in the second movement of the final sonata which we're listening to now, performed by two musicians who were also good friends: violinist Itzhak Perlman and pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy.
Johannes Brahms - Violin Sonata No. 3 in D Minor: II. Adagio
