It's fall, ya'll!: Cozy — Thursday

For centuries, people have celebrated this season with music that reflects the mood of this change in weather and daylight.

Hear today's full episode by clicking "Listen" above or find "Intermezzo" from your favorite podcast app.

This week on Intermezzo, we'll hear from grade schoolers and high schoolers about their favorite parts of this pumpkin spice-y season, and we'll sample some classical music written for cozy sweater weather.

So far this week we've talked about crunchy, spooky and aromatic Fall. Today, we get cozy with blankets and cocoa as the days get shorter and the air takes on a chill.

Probably the most famous piece of classical music having to do with the seasons is "The Four Seasons" by Antonio Vivaldi. He wrote "The Four Seasons" as part of his work for the Ospedale della Pietà, a Venetian orphanage for girls.

He was a priest and worked at the orphanage running an all-female orchestra which became so skilled that they regularly gave concerts, but sat behind a screen while playing. Vivaldi included a sonnet to go with the concertos which describes the movements.

This week's Mystery Melody

It's time to test your ears. Each week we have a mystery melody that we have to figure out together. It relates to our topic. (We'll make the melody less mysterious each day.)

If you know the mystery melody, text your name and the title and we’ll give you a shout out on Friday. The number to text is (833) 490-4718.
