There are many musical versions of the story of "Cinderella," but which one will we encounter today?
Yesterday, we heard the overture to Gioachino Rossini's operatic take on the tale. Today, singers are replaced with dancers in Sergei Prokofiev's ballet adaptation.

Prokofiev wanted Cinderella to be, quote, “not only as a fairy-tale character but also as a real person, feeling, experiencing, and moving among us.”
And his orchestration paints a musical scene clearly. There's a scene when the stepsisters are getting ready for the festival; it's titled "I can't find my shawl" and after that is this great dance called "Quarrel."

Recap: Yesterday, we left Cinderella at her mother's grave. She had planted a twig there, watered it with her tears, and the twig grew into a magical tree.
