Today we'll look at how music and math are closely related. Some famous musicians were also known for being extremely good at math.
Like Math, learning how to read music is very hard at first. It takes a lot of practice, but once you've got it down, you feel so proud of yourself. You just learn step by step and enjoy the litte triumphs along the way. Kind of like Margaret, Elle, and Tori felt proud as they were getting a handle on numbers.
With all of the similarities between math and music, it’s no wonder that SOME famous musicians were also really really good at math.
For example Brian May, the lead guitarist in the rock band, Queen is an astrophysicist. His math skills helped NASA to find a good place to land on an asteroid to collect samples. That mission was completed just 2 years ago. And since an asteroid is a rock, that goves a whole new meaning to Brian May's composition "We will Rock You." (sound up)
William Herschel, a composer and mathematician, is famously known for his astronomical discoveries, particularly the planet Uranus in 1791, alongside his sister Caroline Herschel, who was also a renowned astronomer who has a comet named after her (because she discovered it).
Musically, William was a composer and organist, while Caroline was a soprano singer.
