Around 10 A.M. Wednesday morning, recovery crews located the body of 12-year-old Lane Frame.
Frame was swept off the pier and into Lake Michigan by a large wave on Monday.
The boy's body was found in 10 feet of water and turned over to the medical examiner.
A 12-year-old boy is still missing after being swept from a pier in Frankfort Monday afternoon. A family of 13 had traveled from Manchester, Tennessee to visit Frankfort on vacation. An Aunt had gone with an 11-year-old and the 12-year-old to walk on the North Pier.
Benzie County Sheriff Ted Schendel says the pier wasn’t safe that day.
“They went out there, maybe not knowing what [the] big lake can do," he says. "They walked out a bit too far and a big wave came along and knocked all three of them into the water.”
The aunt was able to get herself and the 11-year-old out of the water, but the 12-year-old boy was swept away from the pier.
A nearly ten-hour search was conducted on Monday by City of Frankfort Police and Fire Rescue, Benzie County Sheriff's Office, the US Coast Guard and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
The weather made the search unsuccessful.
“It was very difficult for the boats to even be out there cause the waves were so high,” says Schendel “and this was inside the pier, believe it or not.”
The search will continue on Wednesday once the lake has calmed down.
Sheriff Schendel says to avoid walking on piers when waves are washing over them.
