More than just the presidency is at stake in November's general election. Grand Traverse County's 104th District in the state house is one of four seats that Democrats want to flip to get a partisan majority.
Republican John Roth aims to keep the seat in GOP hands, which it has been for decades.
"It's an important seat for us to keep in Republican control," House Speaker Pro Tem Jason Wentworth said.
Democrats have nominated Dan O'Neil, who is running for the seat for the second-straight time.
"These are high stakes," Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said at an O'Neil rally in early October.
The race for the 104th was tightly-contested and very expensive in 2018, and 2020 looks like it will be no different
"In terms of broadcast ads spending, this is the third most expensive race. In terms of overall campaign spending in the [state] house it is among the most expensive so far," said Simon Schuster, the executive director of the Michigan Campaign Finance Network.
Join Roth, O'Neil and IPR's Politics Reporter Max Johnston for a virtual candidate forum Wednesday, October 14 starting at 5 p.m. The event will be livestreamed via Zoom and on IPR's social media platforms.
Viewers will have the opportunity to ask the candidates questions during the forum, but in the meantime you can submit one by leaving a voicemail at 231.276.4444, or email us a question or voice memo at ipr@interlochen.org
