A sign is posted outside the Grand Traverse Health Department on Friday, March 13.

A resident of Charlevoix County is being treated for a presumptive case of COVID-19 at a downstate hospital, according to the Health Department of Northwest Michigan.

The adult female was “likely exposed through international travel,” states the health department's press release.

It was determined that “this individual did not return to Charlevoix County following her return from travel,” states the release.

She is in a hospital downstate and is in “stable condition.”

“We hope for the speedy recovery of our resident,” the director of the Health Department of Northwest Michigan Josh Meyerson said in a statement. “The health department and all local officials are relying on our communities to work together. Our first case highlights our need to be vigilant and take the necessary precautions to slow the potential spread of illness.”
