LATEST: As of 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 24, police are still searching for suspects and taking tips from the community.

Police are looking for suspects after the Bay Mills Indian Community Cultural Center was vandalized over the weekend.

Damage reaches into the thousands of dollars and cultural artifacts were likely destroyed, according to a Facebook post from Community Chairperson, Whitney Gravelle.

"To see the Cultural Center treated with such disrespect is devastating, as I know the damage will go much further than just the building and will disrupt our gatherings as well," Gravelle said in her post. "It is equally devastating to know that we have individuals within our community who are hurting enough to inflict this type of pain on others, so we must remember to embrace them in healing while also tempering our anger."

Photos provided by the Bay Mills Police Department show food and craft supplies scattered across the floors. A press release from the Bay Mills Police Department said the suspects entered by breaking a window in the back of the building.

The Cultural Center will remain closed for now. A craft night was cancelled to continue the clean-up.

Anyone with information on the vandalism or the whereabouts of anyone involved is asked to contact the Bay Mills Police Department at 906-248-3244.
