The Healthy & Sustainable Building Symposium is on Saturday, May 11th, 9am-5pm at 414 E. Eighth Street in Traverse City. If you are a builder, health professional, homeowner, or someone who is interested in learning about how our home environments can impact our health and wellbeing, please join us! Help improve habitat by controlling highly invasive garlic mustard and planting native seedlings. Foster sustatinability as we refine existing trails and consider potential reroutes. Come out to help plant native plugs at GTRLC’s Mitchell Creek Meadows Nature Preserve! Volunteers will learn about and take an active part in the Conservancy’s ongoing habitat restoration project by assisting with planting plugs grown in our very own greenhouse.
The Basics:
GTRLC will supply tools and water. We will teach you everything you need to know about how to properly handle and plant plugs in the ground. No prior experience is necessary! This is a moderately light, family-friendly activity, though volunteers should be prepared for digging and kneeling. Bathrooms and drinking water are both available on site.

Pete Farmer, founder and owner of Farmer Foot Drums, brings his menagerie of hand- and foot-operated percussion instruments and music to the Glen Arbor Arts Center, May 11, for a family-friendly program. This concert of interactive songs begins at 11 am. The program is free. No registration is required. Children must be accompanied by adults.Farmer will bring his instrument petting zoo to the May 11 program. Participants will be able to try out several of Farmer’s inventive, and unexpected hand-built instruments following his performance.A Leelanau County resident, Farmer performs at the GAAC as part of By Hand, a project exploring the creativity of human hand work in a techno-centric age.
