Four visual artists exhibiting work in the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s HIStory / HERstory: Whose Story exhibition talk about the power of the visual arts to take on difficult subjects. This facilitated discussion is October 4, 1 pm in the GAAC’s Main Gallery.

The HIStory / HERstory exhibition critically examines the power of voice. It digs into the idea that the victors write history while other histories are ignored, deleted, denied, left out of the official record. Artists Margo Burian, Mary Fortuna, Todd Lininger, and Stephanie Schlatter approached these ideas from feminist, judicial, and mythologic avenues. The discussion, facilitated by GAAC Gallery Manager Sarah Bearup-Neal, will delve into how these artist use visual language to translate difficult subjects, and the psychic and emotional benefits of being able to speak through one’s creative work.

Explore the connection the Anishinaabe, Grand Traverse Bay's ancestral residents, have to the Bay. Tera John, a Knowledge Carrier and Story Keeper from the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians will be our guide as Manitou sails across the waters that have been a vital resource since time immemorial.

The Guided Walking History Tours of Traverse City will begin its tenth season on July 9th, following the National Cherry Festival.

The informative tour is about two and a half hours covering a two-mile route. The tours begin at the Perry Hannah Plaza, located at the corner 6th and Union St. near downtown.

There is no charge for the tours, but gratuities for the guides are appreciated. Groups of six or more can schedule tours at other times.

For 2025 our 10:00 AM walking tours begin on Wednesday July 9th and continue daily through October 8th. No reservations are needed, simply arrive by 10:00 AM please.

A space for people to share and listen to stories from our lives based on a theme of the evening. Join Kingsley Branch Library & The Kingsley Folk School for a storytelling community circle. Inspired by NPR's The Moth storytelling hour, the Everyone Has a Story series welcomes you to share your personal stories with others to create connections in our community.

Presenters will be given 5 minutes to share stories from their lived experiences with an open-minded circle of fellow storytellers.

Every second Thursday of the month.

This event is FREE and open to the public of all ages.
