We're kicking off, no dancing off Banned Book Season with our favorite dance instructor Anna Beard from Traverse Cities own Historical Weapons Guild. Register for Scandal on the Dance Floor and experience the infamous routine that caused such a stir in Elizabethan England, it was banned.

Doublets and Ruffs are optional, but always encouraged. There will be plenty of dancing.

Join us as Brandon Schroeder blends history, culture, and science to reveal how the waters of the Great Lakes continue to connect communities past and present!

This is a free community event that will take place in the theater of the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center. Brandon Schroeder is the Senior Extension Educator for Michigan Sea Grant and MSU Extension. His presentation on Great Lakes fisheries will incorporate stories of people, places, science, culture, and stewardship that have shaped life across Michigan for generations, all while exploring the fascinating relationship between fish, communities, and an ever-changing Great Lakes ecosystem.

This presentation draws on resources from the Great Lakes Fisheries Heritage Trail, Michigan Sea Grant, the Center for Great Lakes Literacy, and other partnering organizations.

Author Joel Walkowski intertwines the fate of two losers - the Detroit Lions and himself - to explore the broader impact a city's football tam can have on its residents, proving that you can overcome anything if you can learn to love what disappoints you.

North Central Michigan College (NCMC) invites high school juniors, seniors and their families, along with current NCMC students considering transfer to complete a bachelor’s degree, to attend College Fair on September 30. The free event will take place in the NCMC Athletics Center gymnasium from 6–7:30 p.m.

Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with representatives from more than 40 colleges, universities and military branches from across the Midwest. Conversations will cover admission requirements, academic programs, college costs, campus activities, and residence life. Michigan Student Aid representatives will also be available to answer questions about state and federal financial aid programs.

Students are encouraged to pre-register at https://app.strivescan.com/registration. Pre-registration provides each student with a personal barcode that colleges can scan at the event, saving time on forms and making it easy to share information with multiple institutions. After the fair, students also receive a follow-up report that summarizes the colleges they connected with during the event.

The nonpartisan League of Women Voters of Leelanau County (LWVLC) will host a candidate forum on Wednesday, September 30, from 7–8 p.m. at Glen Arbor Township Hall. The forum will give voters an opportunity to hear directly from candidates and learn more about the issues and priorities shaping their community.
