International Lecture: Vienna 1900 — A History of the Present
Nov 19, 2025 12:00 p.m. | NCMC Library
At the dawn of the 20th century, Vienna stood at the crossroads of beauty and decay, a city of glittering culture and deep uncertainty. In Vienna 1900: A History of the Present, North Central Michigan College faculty member Blake Morley examines how artists and intellectuals like Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Sigmund Freud, and Arnold Schönberg responded to a rapidly changing world. Their search for authenticity amid political instability and social transformation gave rise to groundbreaking movements in art, psychology, and philosophy.
Join us as we explore how turn-of-the-century Vienna continues to echo in today’s cultural moment, a reminder that times of crisis often inspire both creativity and reflection.
