Christine Byron: The Green Book in Michigan
Christine Byron: The Green Book in Michigan
Historian Christine Byron will share the story of the “Green Book”, a travel guide for African American motorists from 1938 through 1967. Started by Victor Green, it listed places where African Americans were welcomed customers, so they could “vacation without aggravation.” Christine will focus on listings from Michigan, sharing anecdotes and photos that bring to light a fascinating chapter of the civil rights movement.
