Koji Kondo composed iconic videogame music for Super Mario and the Legend of Zelda. His 60th birthday was August 13, 2021.

Tune in to Classical IPR today at 4:00 for a celebration of the music of Japanese composer and pianist Koji Kondo, who turned 60 on Friday, August 13, 2021.

Koji Kondo has written some of the best-known scores in all of video games, including Super Mario Bros and The Legend of Zelda. He was first hired by Nintendo in 1984, and has been writing music ever since.

Today we'll hear music from multiple Zelda and Mario games arranged for orchestra, brass ensemble, and string quartet. We'll also hear a little of the music he listened to growing up which had an influence on the scores he wrote.
