Bloomquist joined the faculty of Michigan State University in 1970.
During his time at MSU, he served as Director of Bands, the Director of the MSU Spartan Marching Band and the Chair of the Music Department at Michigan State University.
Bloomquist is credited as the force behind the transformation of MSU's Department of Music into a School of Music.
He remained active with the MSU Alumni Band following his retirement.
He was a guest conductor and clinician all over the world.
Bloomquist made several recordings with the MSU Symphony Band, the Brass Band of Battle Creek, the Musashino Academy Wind Ensemble and many others.
Ken and Ann Bloomquist moved to Northport in 1994 and played a pivotal role in the area's musical life.
Ken founded and conducted the Northport Community Band, and Ann founded and conducted the Village Voices.
Bloomquist passed away August 6 at the age of 89.
