The Interlochen campus is full of talented folks year-round, and summertime is no exception!
Quite a few summer staff have teamed up into performance groups, and we're featuring several in Studio A on Classical IPR.
Our third, and final, group:
Thomas Barkal (Flute): Tom is Director of the Intermediate Pines Division, and year-round serves Senior Instructor of Residence Life at Interlochen Arts Academy. Throughout the last year of Covid-19 isolation, Tom explored extended flute technique - including beatboxing!
Amrutha Murthy (Flute): Amrutha, a counselor in the High School Pines Dvision, is a senior music education and flute performance double major at North Texas University. Her undergraduate thesis deals with "flow theory" - a way to teach young musicians to be "in the zone."
Anna Seppa (Cello): Anna is spending her second summer at Interlochen as a counselor, this year in High School Pines. She's just finished her undergraduate studies in cello and psychology, and will spend next year as a gap year fulfilling the role of Instructor of Residence Life beginning this fall.
The trio performed "Merge Left" by Mark Mellits, and Tom even gave us a moment of flute beatboxing!
