Enrique Márquez to lead music programs at Interlochen Center for the Arts

Enrique Márquez

Enrique Márquez attended Interlochen Arts Camp and Arts Academy as a teen.

Next month, he'll return to Interlochen Center for the Arts as the institution's Director of Music.

"I'm dropping out of Harvard to go to Interlochen," Márquez says with a laugh, referring to his current role as the director of events at the Ivy League university's music department.

He joined Classical IPR for a conversation about his background and how he got from his career as a professional violist to his current work as an administrator.

He also curated a playlist of music by Gustav Holst, Paul Dukas, Nina Simone and José Pablo Moncayo.

The music included archival recordings of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra and Interlochen Arts Academy orchestra from his years as an Interlochen student.

Márquez holds a bachelor's degree in music from Indiana University and graduate degrees from the Manhattan School of Music, City University London and Harvard University.

He's currently a fellow of the Sphinx LEAD program, a program for arts administrators and leaders of color.
