Gov. Rick Snyder speaking at the 2014 Mackinac Policy Conference

Over 1,500 politicians, philanthropists, entrepreneurs and business people are at the Grand Hotel for this year's Mackinac Policy Conference. There will be three days of events and speakers, including Gov. Rick Snyder and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan.

OurIt’s Just Politicsteam, Zoe Clark and Rick Pluta, describes the event as a "melting pot" of Michigan leaders.

"If they were gonna pass out really honest T-shirts," said Pluta on Wednesday's Stateside. "They would read, 'You know, I'm kind of a big deal.'"

Clark and Pluta joined Cynthia Canty on Stateside to discuss the conference, including the controversy around funding for Detroit Public Schools.
