July 2026 Puzzle: A Word Before

Congratulations to Ann in Lake Ann, whose name was chosen from around 70 correct answers to this month's puzzle!

The next puzzle comes out Aug. 8. Want to play? You can only do that through the IPR Newsletter. Sign up for it here.

Try the July Puzzle!

In this puzzle, you’ll see several lists of words and be asked to provide one word that can go before each item in that list to create a new common word or phrase. For example, for the words MAN, BALL, FLAKE, and GLOBE… the answer is SNOW to make SNOWMAN, SNOWBALL, SNOWFLAKE, AND SNOW GLOBE.

For this month’s puzzle, find the word that can go before each of these. The number of spaces on the left indicates how many letters are in that word. When you’ve identified all the words, read the first letter of each one in order from top to bottom. They'll spell out a 6-letter word that may already be on the tip of your tongue if you’re in Northern Michigan this time of year.

That word is the answer to this month’s puzzle.
