Classical IPR welcomes Tyler Castellanos as music host and librarian

A classically trained musician with a doctorate in trumpet performance, Tyler will host Music by Request.

Classical IPR is pleased to welcome Tyler Castellanos to the staff.

A classically trained musician originally from Georgia, Tyler holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in trumpet performance from Texas Tech University.

Since moving to northern Michigan in 2024, Tyler has performed with local ensembles around the region. He has also taught private lessons, coached sectional rehearsals and worked as an ensemble manager at Interlochen Center for the Arts and for Traverse City Area Public Schools.

Tyler will assume hosting responsibilities of Music by Request each week.

"I've enjoyed listening to Music by Request every week since moving here," Tyler said. "On one week's show, I heard the Sibelius second symphony requested, and I was so thrilled because that's one of my favorite pieces, too."

He is looking forward to getting to know listeners through their requests on the program every week.

In addition to hosting Music by Request, Tyler will manage Classical IPR's music library, working behind the scenes to collect, catalogue and digitize music for broadcast. He will also host Music at Midday during the week.

"Tyler brings a wealth of knowledge and curiosity about classical music to this role," IPR's music director Amanda Sewell said. "He is excited about the future of classical music and feels a real connection to our community here in northern Michigan. We are so pleased to have him on board."

Please join us in welcoming Tyler to Classical IPR. His first episode as host of Music by Request will air Saturday, May 30 with an encore on Sunday, May 31.
