Antoni Porowski at the National Writers Series: Antoni Porowski is a food and wine expert and star of the Netflix series “Queer Eye.” He’s also written two cookbooks: “Antoni in the Kitchen” and “Antoni: Let’s Do Dinner.” Antoni spoke with food and culture book author and editor Matt Rodbard, at the City Opera House in Traverse City in August of 2025 as part of Traverse City Food & Wine, a weeklong celebration of the region's culinary scene.

Don Winslow at the National Writers Series: Don Winslow has written 25 books, most of them crime novels. The latest is called City in Ruins. It’s the third in a trilogy featuring his character Danny Ryan. Don’s also known for his books The Force, Savages, and the Cartel trilogy. A number of his works have been adapted for TV and film, with more on the way. Author and National Writers Series co-founder Doug Stanton spoke with Don at the City Opera House in Traverse City.

Words in Flight, from BirdNote: Birds have long been a popular subject for writers. They are featured over and over in songs and books. Shakespeare frequently mentioned birds in his plays, whether for symbolism or dramatic effect. And there are more poems about birds than we can count. Words in Flight is an hour-long radio special, featuring selections from episodes of BirdNote Daily and Bring Birds Back that highlight contemporary poetry. You’ll hear poets, in their own words, sharing what birds mean to them, and what they teach us about ourselves and our world.

Jennifer Weiner at the National Writers Series: Jennifer Weiner’s first novel, Good in Bed, came out in 2001. Since then, she’s written more than 20 books, the latest of which is called The Griffin Sisters’ Greatest Hits. It’s about two sisters who form a pop music duo in the early 2000s, rise to fame and mysteriously break up at the height of their stardom. Jennifer spoke with Interlochen Public Radio’s music director Amanda Sewell at the City Opera House in Traverse City in April of 2025.
