This week, Corson Auditorium is gearing up for the holidays with visits from Santa Claus and even beloved characters from "Frozen" — and, of course, performances by Interlochen Arts Academy's music, theatre and interdisciplinary arts students in "Sounds of the Season."
Interlochen's Director of Choral Music, Dr. Carter Smith, came to IPR with junior organ major Frankie Segger (Madison, CT) and senior classical voice major Chase Willson (Wyoming, MI) to talk to Christy L'Esperance about their involvement in the much-anticipated holiday performances.
"Sounds of the Season" will make up the 105th and 106th performances at Interlochen Arts Academy just this academic year and is a collaborative production between many different departments. Dr. Smith likened the program to that of "Collage" earlier in the fall.
"The performance will feature our choral ensembles, the Academy choir and the chamber singers as well as our wind symphonies," said Smith. "We'll also see our dance department, interdisciplinary studies [and] musical theater. It's a real collaborative effort across the disciplines."
Even though this is only Willson's second "Sounds of the Season," they really enjoy how the performance connects students across the campus.
"This is one of the most collaborative performances that I take part in during the school year here," Willson reflected. "It's just really enjoyable working with other majors."
"Sounds of the Season" will be held at Corson Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on both Thursday, December 18 and Friday, December 19. Friday's concert will be broadcast live on Classical IPR, with a pre-show led by Amanda Sewell starting at 7:00 p.m.
