The 2025 Frankfort Film Festival marks 17 years of the event at the Garden Theater.
Movies include dramas like "Tina," about a mother grieving her daughter's loss in the earthquakes in Christchurch, New Zealand. There are comedies, romances, and documentaries, like "Dahomey," which chronicles the journey of 28 artifacts from the Kingdom of Dahomey.
"We like to have something for everybody," said Katie Jones, executive director of the Friends of the Garden Theater, which runs the historic century-old movie house in downtown Frankfort. "But the unifying theme is that they're award-winning films from around the globe. So whether it's won at a tiny little film festival like ours, or is nominated for an Oscar, they all have to have won something from around the globe."
The festival closes the movie "Sunfish (& Other Stories on Green Lake)," which was shot largely in and around Interlochen.
"It's a beautifully shot film," Jones said. "I told Sierra Falconer, who's the filmmaker, that even though I've never met her, we're so proud of her because she's from our region and she filmed it in our region — and it premiered at Sundance. That's so cool."
The festival runs Oct. 15-19. See the full schedule.
