Last week, a joint statement from Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, state Senate Democratic Leader Winnie Brinks and Republican House Speaker Matt Hall said they had agreed on a budget deal.
But with just hours left before the end of the state's fiscal year, state Rep. Betsy Coffia (D-Traverse City) says that declaration might have been premature.
"I and my colleagues in the House Democratic caucus still have seen no budget numbers whatsoever, despite the October 1 deadline in less than 48 hours," Coffia wrote Monday night on Facebook. "This is entirely unacceptable for the people of the district I represent."
Coffia's 103rd House District encompasses all of Leelanau County as well as parts of Grand Traverse and Benzie counties.
"I'm not sure what to expect, to be frank," Coffia told IPR's Morning Edition while on the way to Lansing on Tuesday. "I don't know how you get a deal for an $80-plus-billion-dollar budget that impacts 10 million people when those who are expected to vote on it have not seen it yet."
She said the House Democratic caucus was expected to hold time over the weekend to go over details, but both of those meetings were canceled.
