Interfaith vigil meant as 'balm for our souls' after Walmart attack

It’s happening at 7 p.m. at Sunset Park, on East Front Street in Traverse City, and it’s organized by SALT – Spiritual Activists Leading Together.

What: Interfaith Prayer Vigil
When: 7 p.m. tonight (Friday, Aug. 1)
Where: Sunset Park, 635 E. Front St., Traverse City

An interfaith prayer vigil Friday night aims to comfort those affected by the violent stabbing attack at the Traverse City Walmart a week ago.

It’s happening at 7 p.m. at Sunset Park, on East Front Street in Traverse City, and it’s organized by SALT – Spiritual Activists Leading Together.

“We’re all carrying the grief as we’ve witnessed what has happened,” said Jessica Forster, the group’s lead community organizer. “When we grieve together, we realize we’re not alone, and we want folks to know there’s a community here ready to receive each other and all of the feelings we may be having right now, as we process what happened in our community last week.”

All are welcome, from those directly affected to those simply trying to process what they heard on the news. Forster falls into the latter category.

“I’ve had a myriad of emotions, if I’m being completely honest, from fear to distress to sadness to heartbreak,” Forster said. “It’s probably no surprise that I believe community is a balm for our souls.”
