As creator and host of the wildly popular podcast series WTF, Marc Maron has millions of fans.

Beginning in stand-up comedy, his career now includes fascinating roles as an actor, voice over work in animation, live-gigs as a musician sitting in with the likes of Trey Anastasio from Phish, and writing and producing his own comedy specials for HBO, Netflix and a namesake series on Comedy Central.

Maron will headline two shows on Saturday, April 12, as part of this weekend’s Traverse City Comedy Fest.

The festival takes place across downtown Traverse City at over seven venues featuring performances, events, improv and workshops. For tickets and schedule visit traversecitycomedyfest.com

Maron spoke at length with IPR Arts and Culture Contributor Joe Beyer on a wide range of topics: his upcoming special on HBO, why comedy and politics have sides, the rise of micro-comedy on social media, teasers about upcoming work on an AppleTV+ series with Owen Wilson and his directorial debut adapting Sam Lipsyte novel into a film. (The writer is a dear friend.)

Joe Beyer is a writer and producer who has supported storytellers and arts and culture organizations in a career including leadership positions at Sundance Institute, The Redford Center, Traverse City Film Festival, Michigan Legacy Art Park, and Parallel 45 Theatre, among others. He recently co-created the feature documentary “Marqueetown,” which is streaming on over 120 PBS affiliates. He’s a regular contributor to Northern Express, Traverse Magazine, and The Boardman Review.
