Interlochen Arts Academy Director of Dance Joseph Morrissey recently sat down with IPR's Nancy Deneen for an insightful interview, highlighting his upcoming production of "Swan Lake."
Morrissey spoke about the dancers' dedication and also the early reception of the ballet during Tchaikovsky's time. "People [originally] deemed it not exactly a success," starts Joseph Morrissey. "It's hard to imagine that back then people thought 'oh it's too symphonic, it's not right' and now it's the ballet of all ballets."

" We wanted to try and bring out as many personalities as possible because [the ballet] is very character heavy," says Morrissey. "The students not only practice their classical ballet technique skills but their artistry and acting and theatricality that comes... each role has its own distinct personality and contribution to the story overall."
With 4 productions over the weekend, Joseph Morrissey promises exquisite costumes, imaginative scenic design and original choreography.
Interlochen conductor Dr. Leslie B. Dunner leads a combined ensemble of musicians from the Traverse City Philharmonic and the Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra.
