Michigan is not alone in having the American robin as its state bird — Wisconsin and Connecticut have adopted it as well. But Michigan is home to plenty of other bird species that many think would be a better fit. IPR wants to hear what you think!
CAWcus participants can sign up between 6:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. for time (up to three minutes) to advocate for their choice for state bird, open mic style. Prepare your case, or improvise. Spoken word, song, poetry and persuasive essay are all welcome! IPR News Director Ed Ronco will be on hand to moderate the conversation.
In true caucus tradition, the goal is to sway attendees to vote for your candidate, and the ballot box will be available until 7:30 p.m. While we tally the ballots we'll welcome participants in a Barred Owl call contest and award prizes. The night will end with the announcement of the (popular) winner for Michigan's state bird!
Not sure what to say? Keep an ear to IPR for recordings made by your friends and neighbors.
