In this detail from the Abrams Planetarium Sky Calendar, the Moon is shown moving up the sky an hour before sunrise, Friday, Saturday and Sunday ~ meeting Uranus, Pleiades and Jupiter as it goes, inviting with courage into the epic narrative about to unfold.

This week’s Full Moon occurs near the planet Uranus, which means that now we begin anew the great tale of human becoming.

To borrow from Homer, knowing the outcome of this new tale requires divine forces, and is best begun with an invocation to the Muse, to reveal the story of this complicated humanity, that wanders and gets lost, always entering the scene, like Dante, at the point of greatest darkness. In epic narrative, the presence of darkness reveals that the hero is on the way to a greater truth. A transformation always occurs, but only after the hero undergoes opportunity disguised as crisis.

How does this show up in the stars this week? It’s with the Moon, which meets Saturn and Neptune early on, then comes to Full Phase near Uranus, on Friday. Then it winds up near Jupiter, God of the future, on Sunday.

Jupiter is brilliant right now, moving between the horns of the Bull and visible all night. One of the bull’s horns marks the “celestial gateway,” the other is the butting one, like the smashing rocks told about by the ancient Greeks. A successful passage here is directly related to the virtue we carry within ourselves as we approach the scene.

In this position, Jupiter is on his way to Amalthea, the she-goat that was guardian of his childhood, protecting him from the rage of his father who knew that if one of his children attained adulthood, he would be overthrown.

For good measure, the Moon gathers the support of Pleiades overnight Saturday. In the mythological narrative, Pleiades pledge themselves to protect and nourish the young god Jupiter, risking passage through the smashing rocks out of a devotion to justice, truth and a new light.
