A fascinating signature of the Mysteries is appearing in the sky right now, involving the planets Saturn and Mercury and the constellations Aquarius and Leo.

In nearly all ancient cultures, Aquarius was described as the waterman, a mighty figure pouring the waters of life onto the earth from his celestial waterpot. Leo, on the other hand, was described as a lion, the sign of kings, its heart star Regulus aligned to the heart or “king” of our solar system, the Sun.

This week, while Saturn is moving through Aquarius, it makes its annual opposition with the Sun, rising as the Sun sets, then moving through the night as our constant companion and guardian. Saturn is associated with time and cosmic memory, and holds us to our agreements.

While this is going on in the nighttime sky, the planet Mercury is in the morning sky, very close to the star Regulus at the heart of the Lion. Mercury is the messenger of the gods, and from Leo, the planet bears tidings of the Sun King.

If we consider just these two planetary positions, among all the other beautiful configurations happening in the sky right now, what emerges is a timeless image of the waterman and the Sun being. For the late Roman poets, Aquarius was related to Elijah, the ancient prophet whose return was prophesied in the last lines of the Old Testament, who is aligned with John the Baptist in the New Testament as witness and herald of the Sun being, the Christ.

The star names of Aquarius all have to do with good fortune and finding what you seek. With Saturn, this finding takes time, but is worth the effort. With Mercury bearing his message from the Sun king at Regulus, the stage is set for realizing the deepest mysteries at the heart of our being human beneath the stars.
