This week, more than 100 musicians from 20 states have convened for the annual Interlochen College of Creative Arts Adult Choir Camp.
Participants spend close to a week on the Interlochen Center for the Arts campus, where they eat, sleep and socialize. Mostly, though, they sing.
The Adult Choir Camp musicians rehearse for close to eight hours every day, culminating in a final performance of a major choral work.
This year, Interlochen's Adult Choir Camp participants will perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem.
Karla Herbold has attended the Adult Choir Camp for over a decade.
"Singing is good for the soul, and my soul needs all the help it can get," Herbold said.

The Adult Choir Camp is directed by Grammy-winning conductor Jerry Blackstone, who is also Emeritus Professor of Conducting at the University of Michigan.
Rehearsals with Blackstone are fun and rigorous at the same time, Herbold said. "His standards are high, and he encourages us to work hard."
IPR had the chance to drop in on one of the choir's many rehearsals this week and get a preview of Saturday's final performance.
Hear selections from that rehearsal on demand below.
Attend the Adult Choir Camp's performance of Mozart's Requiem on Saturday, July 1 at 12:30 p.m. in Corson Auditorium.
The program will also include "Here's to Song" by Allister MacGillvray and Moses Hogan's setting of "Deep River."
They'll be joined for that performance by an ad hoc orchestra of musicians from around the Grand Traverse region.
