The Grammy Award-winning musician hosts the first-ever Christmas Variety Show at Leland's Old Art Building on Dec. 23.

Andrew Dost is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, film composer and member of the Grammy Award-winning band fun.

He's also a member of the music faculty at Interlochen Center for the Arts, where he teaches in the singer-songwriter program.

Andrew Dost's newest role is that of Christmas variety show host, which he'll be doing on Dec. 23 at the Old Art Building in Leland.

The show is inspired by everything from Lawrence Welk to Dolly Parton to the Muppets.

"I love Christmas," Dost said. "I love mayhem and chaos and Muppet-y mischief, so I can't wait."

Dost is hosting the show, and guest musicians include Courtney Kaiser-Sandler, Marc Lacuesta, A.S. Lutes and Jack Senff.

"Everyone got the concept right away," Dost explained. "All you have to do is say 'Muppets' and people come running."

And yes, he says, he will be channeling Kermit the Frog in this Muppet Show-esque program.

In addition to the chaos, there will be moments of sentimentality.

"Everything's coming together with a bit of tenderness," Dost explained. "We want to infuse it with some sweetness and sentimentality in that Lawrence Welk kind of way."

Dost and the other organizers are optimistically calling this year's Christmas Variety Show the "first annual."

They hope to have puppets next year.

"More chaos, more puppetry, more sketch comedy," Dost said. "We want to have, like, weird talent shows."

As for whether fun. will be recording together again any time soon, Dost said that he, Jack Antonoff and Nate Ruess don't currently have any plans.

But, recent events might change that.

"I had a dream that we had a reunion and all made spaghetti together," Dost said. "I'll have to text Jack and Nate and ask what they think it means."
