Plus, candidates for Leelanau County Commission were able to give two-minute speeches. You can listen to those, here:
But the bulk of the evening was spent hearing from candidates for two seats in the Michigan Legislature.
The 37th District Senate seat is open. Republican state Rep. John Damoose is seeking to move to the upper chamber, facing Democrat Barb Conley, an oncologist who lives in Northport where she serves on the school board.
And in the 103rd District House race, Grand Traverse County Commissioner Betsy Coffia, a Democrat, is challenging Republican incumbent Rep. Jack O'Malley.
THE RULES
Each candidate was allowed to make a two-minute opening and closing statement. Between those two events, they were each given two minutes to answer a variety of questions and another minute for a rebuttal. In some cases, candidates decided not to rebut their opponent.
Below, you can listen to each question and hear the responses. We alternated who started, allowing the Senate candidates to answer and rebut, and then the House candidates, before reversing the order for the next question.
IPR News Director Ed Ronco and Leelanau Enterprise Publisher John Elchert co-moderated the event. We've listed each audio file in the order they happened at the debate.
