Third Coast Swing’s first album pulls inspiration from nearly a century ago

Third Coast Swing
‘Dreams of Toulon’ the first album of Ludington band, Third Coast Swing, debuted June 30th.

Third Coast Swing is a Ludington band heavily influenced by jazz of the 1930s and 40s.

The group especially draws inspiration from Django Reinhardtand his band, The Hot Club Of Paris.

Normally, you can only listen to Third Coast Swing if you find a live performance, but now the band is releasing its first album: Dreams of Toulon.

Guitarist Stephen Plummer says Django Renhardt had always been a part of his life.

“I had always thought, one day when I had the time I would like to learn his music.”

Third Coast Swings debut album was released June 30th.

The band will be performing live all summer, including one this Saturday at 5:00 at the Ludington State Park amphitheater.

Kendra Carr joined IPR as the All Things Considered host in 2019. She previously worked at WMOM in Ludington as the News Director. In 2017, WMOM received the Michigan Association of Broadcasters "Station of the Year" award.
