<p><a href="mailto:stephanlj@interlochen.org"><em>By Linda Stephan</em></a></p> <p>The long-time owner of Mackinac Island's iconic Grand Hotel has died at age 80.</p> <p>Dan Musser Jr. started working at the hotel as a college student in 1951. It was then owned by his uncle.</p> <p>At that time, hotel staff describe the Grand as a hotel that looked just like any other. Not so today.</p> <p>Musser became president of the Grand Hotel in 1960 and bought it with his wife in 1979. He doubled its size and remodeled it into a world-class destination, with no two rooms alike and great attention to detail.</p> <p>He and his wife Amelia also raised show dogs. Their Scottish Terrier Sadie earned "Best In Show" at the 2010 Westminster Dog Show.</p> <p>Dan Musser is survived by Amelia, three children and seven grandchildren. The family retains ownership of the hotel.</p> <p>Funeral services are Wednesday in East Lansing. </p>
