TC says no recreational pot businesses for now

THERACANN

Traverse City won't allow recreational marijuana businesses in city limits.

The state hasn't finalized the licensing regulations for recreational marijuana businesses yet.

City Attorney Lauren Trible-Laucht says that's why Traverse City opted out.

"We really just want to have the opportunity to take a look at what those rules are going to be before we try to forumulate local regulations that could potentially conflict with those rules," Trible-Laucht says.

The city commission approved the ban on Monday, but Trible-Laucht says it will likely be revoked within a year.

Marijuana is still legal to use on private property if you're over the age of 21. Medical marijuana dispensaries are allowed within city limits.
