The group says it was promised over 9,000 pages from the state agency related to the development of a weapons manufacturing facility that recently broke ground in Grayling.

A U.S. subsidiary of the Swedish defense company Saab announced its plans to build last year. The facility will take up about 60 acres in an industrial park south of Grayling.

It's a $75 million investment. The decision comes with support from officials but concern from some residents who expressed distrust with the military presence in the area.

No tribal governing bodies have taken an official stance on the expansion yet, but some officials have already expressed concern.

In a letter to the governor, they highlighted their constituents' concerns, including what they feel is a lack of transparency from the Michigan National Guard and a concern for natural resources, should the proposal move forward.

Representatives from local government, conservation groups and frustrated citizens held a virtual media conference Thursday to voice their concerns.

The group represents 19 local chapters and over 8,000 individual members.
