Every summer, Interlochen Arts Camp's Advanced String Quartet program welcomes sixteen high school musicians who focus on learning complete string quartets.
The students are divided into four quartets, and each quartet learns one movement of a string quartet by a major composer.
During the final week of camp each summer, the quartets visit IPR's Studio A to record the music that they've learned.
This year, the quartets each learned a movement of Felix Mendelssohn's String Quartet no. 4 in E minor (op. 44, no. 2).
Each quartet is pictured below, and all movements can be heard on demand in this podcast episode.
The students in Interlochen's Advanced String Quartet program will present their final recital of the summer on Saturday, August 3 at 12:30 p.m. in Interlochen's Dendrinos Chapel. Admission is free, and no tickets are required. (learn more)
