Part 2 of the Anishinaabe Creation Story – told by language teacher Kenny Pheasant.

TRANSCRIPT:
Then our creator created one of the greatest mysteries of all time, the four seasons, Aandaakiiwinan.

Bringing balance to all of creation such as the four seasons, four parts of the day.

At this time humans were created with similar cultures but different languages.

Then out of the Anishinaabe nation a man was chosen to name all things that he saw.

He saw the birds, Bineshiinhak in the sky, the fish Giigonhik in the rivers, the medicines Mshkikiin on the earth.

He saw that this one animal stayed by him all the time, so he called the animal Mahiingan.

When he was finished naming everything and everyone in his prayers, he said the he was finished.

The creator spoke to him and told him your name shall be Nanaabozho.

Also the Mahiingan had to go its own way but will have a similar life as the Anishinaabek.
