Lt. Kegan “SMURF” Gill grew up in the Traverse City area before becoming a U.S. Navy fighter jet pilot. While doing a training flying an FA-18 Hornet aircraft, Kegan had an accident that nearly claimed his life. Afterwards, he had a long path to recovery, both physically and mentally. Kegan talks about this journey in his memoir, “Phoenix Revival.” He talked with journalist and broadcaster Ron Jolly of WTCM NewsTalk 580, at the Alluvion in Traverse City in June of 2025.
