Metropolitan Opera: 'La Sonnambula'

Metropolitan Opera

On Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m., hear the Metropolitan Opera's broadcast of "La Sonnambula" by Vincenzo Bellini.

The Metropolitan Opera's 2025-26 season of Saturday matinee broadcasts continues on April 25 with a highlight from last fall: "La Sonnambula" by Bellini.

This heart-tugging bel canto romance showcases soprano Nadine Sierra in the title role of the village girl Amina, whose sleepwalking creates misunderstandings that put her honor in question. Tenor Xabier Anduaga stars opposite her as Amina's jealous fiancé, Elvino. The cast also features bass Alexander Vinogradov as the world-wise Count Rodolfo and soprano Sydney Mancasola as Amina's rival, Lisa. Maestro Riccardo Frizza conducted the Met Orchestra and Chorus in this acclaimed performance last October.

Listen to the broadcast of "La Sonnambula" on Classical IPR at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

From the Met: "This operatic gem from one of the great masters of melody is a benchmark of extraordinary vocalism. The title role of the sleepwalking girl was composed for the greatest diva of the day, Giuditta Pasta (for whom Bellini also wrote the tragic role of Norma). The part requires a rare combination of innocence, charm, and breathtaking vocal virtuosity. Deeper than a comedy, but in no way a tragedy, 'La Sonnambula' reaches its conclusion through genuine, poignant character development, rather than by intrigue or farce."
