The Metropolitan Opera’s 2025-26 season of Saturday matinee broadcasts continues on January 31 with Richard Strauss’s romance "Arabella," in an acclaimed performance from November 22, 2025.
American soprano Rachel Willis-Sørensen sings the title role of a beautiful young Viennese noblewoman who dreams of true love, while her family is counting on her to marry a man of fortune. Bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny stars opposite her as Mandryka, a wealthy landowner who seems to offer Arabella everything. And soprano Louise Alder is her sister Zdenka, whose own romantic impulses almost bring their family to ruin. The cast also features Pavol Breslik, Karen Cargill, Brindley Sherratt, and Julie Roset. Maestro Nicholas Carter conducts the Met Orchestra and Chorus in this sumptuous score.
Listen to "Arabella" on Classical IPR at 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
