Quinn Kelsey as Rigoletto and Rosa Feola as Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto.

The 2021-22 season of live Saturday matinee broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera continues with Rigoletto, Verdi’s powerful tragedy about a man struggling to separate the good from the evil in his life.

All three stars of the broadcast have won international acclaim for their performances in this opera. Hawaiian baritone Quinn Kelsey sings the title role of the embittered jester. Italian soprano Rosa Feola is Rigoletto’s innocent daughter Gilda, whom he’s desperate to shelter from the world. And Polish tenor Piotr Beczała is his employer, the predatory Duke of Mantua.

Maestro Daniele Rustioni leads the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus.

The opera is performed in a new production by Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher, which will also be shown in movie theaters around the world, Live in HD. During intermission, HD host Isabel Leonard will interview the stars backstage.

Rigoletto will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network at 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, January 29. Listen to it on Classical IPR.
