Nissley takes over as NMC president in Traverse City

Jan 27, 2020

Nick Nissley took over as the 11th President of Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City on Jan. 1.

Nissley, formerly the executive director of The School for Creative & Performing Arts in Cincinnati, Ohio, says he's excited to return to northern Michigan.

"It was 22 years ago that I proposed to my wife out at Pictured Rocks," Nissley said. "Now we have a chance to call (northern Michigan) home."

Nissley says he wants to expand NMC's mission and outreach to the community, while making the school more affordable and attainable to shifting demographics of community college students.

"We've been able to manage our tuition wisely to make it affordable," Nissley said. "I think NMC is well-positioned in that they are responding, and have been responding for many years, to those sort of shifts and changes."

Nissley takes over the presidency from Timothy J. Nelson, who retired last December after an 18 year tenure with the college.
