Viridian Strings is a changing group of musicians that meets every summer to perform in northern Michigan.
The group was founded by Joe Skerik and Kyle Stachnik, and for this set of recitals, they're joined by violinist Claire Wells and pianist Umi Garrett.
Their current tour, titled "Undercurrents," explores the Romantic piano quartet tradition with works by Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms.
Viridian Strings has upcoming concerts July 31 at the The Alluvion in Traverse City and August 1 at the Oliver Art Center in Frankfort. You can find more information on their website.
Viridian Strings visited Studio A to record selections from the Schumann quartet in the presence of a live studio audience.
In addition to their piano quartet recitals, the members of Viridian Strings will also be appearing at two IPR events this week.
On Wednesday, July 29 starting at 5:30 p.m., Claire Wells, Joe Skerik and Kyle Stachnik will perform music for violin, viola and cello during Classical Happy Hour at the Little Fleet.
Then, on Sunday, August 2, Umi Garrett, Joe Skerik and Kyle Stachnik will co-host this week's live broadcast of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra. The broadcast starts at 7 p.m. with the concert downbeat at 7:30 p.m.
