Pianist Hailey Culp says that she came up with the name for Trio Voci during one of the group's 1 a.m. group texting sessions.
Culp, along with violinist Jad Ibrahim and cellist Caleb Ryu, were engaging in their usual banter and when and where they would practice next while also trying to make artistic decisions about the music they were playing.
"I was like, 'voci' means 'voices,' and that's it represents," Culp explained. "What if we use that name to represent how we're one harmonious group but also still three individuals."
The three members of Trio Voci are currently students at Interlochen Arts Academy.
Culp, Ibrahim and Ryu recently visited IPR's Studio A to perform music by Beethoven and Shostakovich.
At the beginning of March, Trio Voci will perform in the junior division of the Coltman Chamber Music Competition at the University of Texas at Austin.
They're also preparing other competition entries, including the prestigious Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.
