Oboist and Interlochen Arts Academy junior Shiyi Song performs in IPR's Studio A with collaborative pianist Ya-Ju Chuang

Hear this Interlochen Arts Academy junior perform in IPR's Studio A.

Shiyi Song is a junior at Interlochen Arts Academy, where she studies the oboe with Dane Philipsen.

Shiyi recently visited IPR's Studio A and performed music of Marie Grandval with collaborative pianist Ya-Ju Chuang.

She performed the first movement of Grandval's oboe concerto, which she said she enjoys because it's very expressive and emotional.

Although Shiyi doesn't have a lot of free time because she's busy studying, doing homework and making reeds, she does enjoy activities that "turn her brain off."

Some of those activities include playing video games, reading manga and watching anime. Her favorite video game right now is Splatoon.

Shiyi is originally from Qingdao, China. She sent her greetings back home to her family, as they were celebrating the final days of the celebrations surrounding China's National Day.

She also wished her grandfather a happy birthday! 生日快乐

Marie Clémence de Grandval, Oboe Concerto in D minor: I. Allegro moderato

This edition of Studio A was engineered by Stefan Wiebe.
